I’m curious. Were you guys happy with Bush-Cheney?

Obama took out Osama bin Laden — something his war-mongering predecessors failed to do — and he’s knocked off much of the al-Qaeda leadership.

He played a key role in facilitating the elimination of Quaddafi, something Reagan never did.

He’s worked hard to boost benefits for veterans, who were treated shabbily under the previous adminstration.

What is it about Obama that you so detest? Surely it isn’t the results of his policies.

I’ll take a stab at this.

I can’t say I agreed with everything Bush ever did (No Child Left Behind, Bank Bailouts, etc) but when it came to the war on terror I thought he did an honorable job considering the position he was thrown in (not inherited).  I don’t really regret us taking out Saddam either despite there not being any weapons of mass destruction.  Its not warmongering to offensively take out threats to our country if evidence pointed us there.  I was also for enhanced interrogation to root out all the terrorists scumbags.

Speaking of which, yes Obama was able to put the hit on Osama…thanks to enhanced interrogation. I do applaud him for doing so…although I personally wouldn’t have taken half as long to pull the figurative trigger. I could say more but I’ll leave it at that.  I’ll actually give him this moment to gloat…

Obama had nothing to do with the death of Muammar Gaddafi.  Nothing. You need to read up on the Battle of Tripoli. You’ll notice Obama’s name doesn’t appear anywhere in there.  But since we’re talking about it, I do believe Obama has been totally wrong about the Arab Spring and we made a mistake handing over so much power to the Muslim Brotherhood who will most likely be as bad, if not worse, than the old crony dictators that were in power.

I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about regarding veteran benefits except that when Obama gutted defense spending he vowed not to cut veteran’s benefits…unless your talking about the benefits he passed back in ‘09?  Either way, he also cut active and retired military healthcare benefits this year…but left the defense bureaucrats benefits untouched.  I don’t know what you mean by Bush  treated them “shabbily” considering he also raised benefits for veterans (unless you can provide a legitimate link with facts.)

I think you pinpointed why a good majority of the country (including Democrats) don’t like Obama…the results from his policies.  I was going to go on a huge tirade on all the screw-ups and poor socialist decisions he’s made in his short first term but I’ll just say 42 months of 8%+ unemployment, $16 Trillion in debt ($6T of which he is directly responsible for, not Bush), 2 drops in our credit ratings, and more deaths of our troops overseas than Bush.  I’ll just leave you with this video (don’t worry it’s actually really well-done) that points out a ton of Obama’s problems using nothing but his own words as proof:

First, Red Blood, let me thank you for keeping your cool and not getting pissed off because I’m a liberal. I’ll try to maintain the same tone of respect here.

There’s much in your post that I disagree with, but let’s start with the issue of who treats veterans better, Obama or Bush/Romney. (Let’s face it, there’s no meaningful distinction between the two.)

A  new poll from Reuters/IPSOS shows that veterans themselves prefer Obama over Romney, whose policy advisers come straight from the Bush administration, by a startling 7 percent. That’s the first time in my lifetime that I can remember veterans backing a Democratic presidential candidate over a Republican.

If Obama weren’t doing something right by veterans, why would a majority support him?

I’m assuming that’s something you and I can agree on: Veterans aren’t stupid.

The boost in veterans benefits under Dubya came over his objections. It only passed after a handful of Senate Republicans took the rare step of crossing the aisle to support the pro-veteran Democrats, including then-Sen. Barack Obama. You can read about that here.

This week came an even more egregious example of Bush/Romney Republicans treating veterans like dirt. Forty senators, drunk on spiked Tea, killed president Obama’s $1 billion veterans’ jobs bill.  Fifty-eight Senators, including all the Democrats, supported it.

As for Saddam, I shed no tears for the bastard. But that doesn’t mean the war against him was a good idea.

Bush/Cheney were hell-bent on getting Saddam, and they made up a bunch of lies to do it.  There were no weapons of mass destruction. And Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. 

I can’t imagine anything more repugnant then sending soldiers into battle on the basis of a lie.

p.s. Didn’t it piss you off that Romney had absolutely nothing to say about veterans, soldiers or the war in Afghanistan during his convention speech?  

I don’t think Bush and Cheney were “hellbent” on invading Iraq, but based on the best evidence presented that they were hiding nuclear/biological weapons and Saddam’s refusal to let UN inspectors in certain areas, it was our country’s call to invade.  You seem to forget that it was Bill Clinton who got this ball rolling with the Iraq Liberation Act, and Bush just pulled the trigger using that same policy.  The problem with the whole war was that we stayed there and tried to clean up…for almost a decade now.

I already wrote about that very stupid Veterans bill that was shot down by Republicans in the Senate. You can read my opinion here. Basically this was another bogus “shovel ready” idea cooked up by the Democrats using the Veterans as a political tool.  I almost would bet money that the Democrats knew the Republicans would all vote “no” on the bill anyway and they were using it for more bad press that the GOP is just blocking Obama’s progress.  It seems pretty legit considering socialists like the New York Slimes and Jon Stewart jumped all over this story blaming Republicans.  Republicans have never treated Veterans or our military like dirt, that is just a flat out lie.

I want to agree with you that Veterans are smart but we both know a lot of them are just as dumb as everyone else.  They’re individuals like you and I and sadly some of them are misinformed as the next person.  I personally know a lot of veterans and most of them are very vocal about their politics…and they all HATE Obama and post more crap about him on Facebook than my closer political friends. The ones I usually disagree with politically are mainly Ron Paul supporters, not Obama supporters.  I’m out of the poll game too, none of them have been very accurate, so I just stopped looking at them…especially online ones.

P.S. I really was disappointed with Romney and Obama’s speeches at the conventions, but that’s probably because I think they’re just a pointless formality anyway (although I loved Paul Ryan’s speech).  I’m pretty sure Romney didn’t mention the war, Veterans or any of the soldiers because he is more worried about our economic and unemployment crisis right now at home. That effects everybody, not just individuals like Veterans or women.  Paul Ryan didn’t mention them either; but Obama made sure to talk about ending the wars (not about the new ones he’s currently engaging in of course) and gays in the military.  But, that’s to be expected.  Don’t forget also, that Romney and Republicans have been strong advocates of the absentee voting for active military.
