The modern Republican party in one sentence.
You know what, this “Veteran Job Corps” bill is just another “shovel-ready” project stamped with our veterans’ face on it. You’re telling me, that we need to throw $1 Billion dollars (that we don’t currently have) into some bill that may or may not help veterans get new jobs as police officers, firefighters and “public land projects” (whatever the hell that is) when they currently have the exact same capabilities to walk out their doors now and get the same kind of job? Give me a break. The bill also was earmarked to build new “job centers” so veterans could have access to computers and the internet; aren’t there libraries out there that we already pay for to do this very thing?
Government can’t create jobs, that is something people have to do themselves. The problem is the private sector is still not hiring like they should due to uncertainty from our current administration.
The most reasonable voice during the Senate debate of this bill came from Rand Paul who suggested pulling funding from countries like Pakistan and Egypt, who do not have the US in their best interests, and instead put that money into veteran benefits. Seems legit to me.
Consistently amazed that people vote Republican. Ever. For any reason.
Fucking damnit. This is why you Americans can’t have nice things.
